At the beginning of the 21st Century monsters still roam the remote, and sometimes not so remote, corners of our planet. It is our job to search for them. The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ] is - we believe - the largest professional, scientific and full-time organisation in the world dedicated to cryptozoology - the study of unknown animals. Since 1992 the CFZ has carried out an unparalleled programme of research and investigation all over the world. Since 2009 we have been running the increasingly popular CFZ Blog Network, and although there has been an American branch of the CFZ for over ten years now, it is only now that it has a dedicated blog.

WEIRD CREATURE OF RIVERSIDE

Riverside, California
This account, if true, is certainly eerie.  Way back in 1958, one C. Wetzel was driving near Riverside, California.  He noticed static on his radio.  Then she saw ahead of him a creature, with a head reminiscent of a scarecrow's.  It lacked ears or a nose, but had a protruberant mouth.  The eyes were fluorescent.  The legs were joined to the torso at the sides, not underneath.  It had leaflike scales on its skin.

To Wetzel's undoubted horror, it jumped on the hood of the car at clawed at the windshield.  Nor was it silent - it gurgled and screamed.  It fell to the ground and the car ran over it.  Wetzel contacted the police, but when they turned up, no vestige of the creature remained.

On the following night, something black frightened a motorist in the same area.
